what i am giving to you is secret mommy. the way the glitch-pop music just flows out of his hands is incredible, especially considering most of the music you hear has been taken from field recordings. i'm presenting you with 2 albums. there is no ghetto booty bass so don't get your hopes up! i list the albums in order of importance to me...the only judge. plus like i always say, i'm not going to talk your ear off about the artist, you can research him just fine. just download it 'cause i'm telling you it's good.

for me its a toss up between the wisdome ep and very rec as the best album in his collection. wisdom ep really has only 6 songs (with 3 being remixes that i dont care for) but download this first and see if you can get in the groove.

first post of 08 and im gonna steal from last.fm........haha. im seriously going to post like 5 albums here in the next week 'cause i think more people should listen.

this is relevant if you live in phoenix as he will be here on the 11th @ the modified. this album is definitely more solid than some of his other albums, but hey, life is a learning curve right?

see this is the reason why chicago seems so fun to me. you get bands like bongripper. experimental doom metal that will spook the shit out of you all the while leaving you with this big gaping hole in your chest that just needs more and more. lets see what listening to bongripper in an altered state of mind will do...maybe it'll make you kill your grandma...who knows. not much else can really be said...why would you want all the fluff? aside from my gibberish, just let heroin rot your insides.

French Teen Idol - Enlightened False Consciousness

if you are a fan of Sigur Ros or M83 you will love this cd. if you dont love it then i think something is wrong with you. personally, i enjoy this cd more than M83's latest efforts. you will be sure to find ambient music with nice lyrical samples played over the top layer.

just trust me and download it, i shouldnt have to try this hard to get you to download and listen. haha.

emperor x is a one man band with an eclectic sense of style. from a recording standpoint im really enjoying this cd. it is interesting to hear how he can take super warm sounding guitar (that comes from plugging directly into his computer or mixer) and turn that into something that wont make you cringe. if i remember correctly, ive also heard that he recorded some of the vocal tracks in his bathroom, which does give it a unique type of sound. im telling you right now that this cd is not for everyone, but if you give it a couple of listens you will find the songs that hit home for you.

for people who can handle: harvey danger, xiu xiu, mountain goats, and anything else sometimes found annoying....

but i leave you with this....you do have A RIGHT TO THE RAILS.

Dynamite Hack - Superfast

A lot of people (mostly bros) remember Dynamite Hack as the band that covered Eazy-E's song "Boyz in tha Hood" but no one gives them the proper respect that they deserve. "Superfast" is their debut album that no one likes and no one pays attention too. Kind of sad if you ask me, it's one of my favorites. They disappeared for a few years and then reemerged on their myspace saying they were working on a new album for release in 2007, but it never came. Strangely, they did post 8 new songs which have now disappeared.

Ghastly City Sleep - (Self-Titled)

A friend of mine turned this cd on to me recently; I was super impressed, so I thought I'd share it with all of you!

The eerie vocals and melodies creep in and out of the tracks tastefully, and the drums carry the harmonic aspects of everything to higher levels. The recording quality is clear and distinct, but the length of the album leaves me wanting more.

If there would be any band to be supported in any sense of the word, this would be the one. Sticking together through a move from Virginia to Brooklyn, New York, this band has a massive amount of untapped potential.

hailing from cambridge, ma this duo does a very fine job of creating both a visual and audio performance. i think i would feel comfortable calling this a downtempo ambient electronica cd. it is very good and a couple of the tracks will really grab you. definitely no reinventing the wheel here, but a good listen regardless.

Golden Death Music-Ephemera Blues

golden death music is a solo project based out of Columbus, Ohio. i like the mix of real guitar tones with keyboards and effects. always a plus if you ask me...

this guy actually spammed me on lastfm and after listening to a few tracks i was hooked. i ordered his cd (which you should too) and found the rest of it to be extremely delightful.

really fans of acid mothers temple, radiohead (stretching it) or jacques and vaznis (haha)....really just download it, smoke while listening (if thats your thing) and you wont be dissapointed. its well worth it.

Ratatat - Remixes Vol. II

One of my bigger musical influences, Ratatat steps away from their solo instrumental endeavors and remixes several primarily East-Coast hip-hop artists's works in this album. It's much better than Vol. I, but overall, Classics is hands down their best album, solely for the transformation from their freshman self-titled release. Check out the remixes with UGK and Beanie.

HORSE the Band - A Natural Death

Really fucken good "tech-grind". Enough said. I prefer The Mechanical Hand album, but this one's way good, too. Not usually a huge fan of grindcore stuff, but the synth aspects of this album blow me away. If you like this, definitely check out Genghis Tron. Similarly heavy, but still has some almost jazzy and quazi-hip-hop breakdowns.

HORSE the Band has some ridiculously ill merchandise that can be found here. The t-shirts are hella sweet.

The Beastie Boys - Hello Nasty

This was basically the first album I ever bought. Period. And I still listen to it. Hello Nasty was Beastie's bridge between jazz and instrumentals, and hip hop itself. This album was touched heavily by Mix Master Mike, who was basically a knight at DMC's round table. Samples included in the lineup of tracks include Grandmaster Flash, Igor Stravinski, Pair Extrordinaire, and The Byrds. Personal favorite track: Negotiation Limerick File (16). Don't hate on the BeastiBeastie Boys until you thoroughly listen to this album, front to back.

ok so this band hails from LA and i explain this as post rock meets a sort of indie rock, with a constant barrage of noise in your face. this cd quickly grew on me and i love the sound. you can check out their myspace if you wanted to know the little info that is out (www.myspace.com/theantarcticans). the main difference between these guys and other post rock bands is that these guys do not use any clean tones or bell like tones for their guitar work. solid drumming going on and overall not too much delay is shoved into your head.

A Silver Mt. Zion - Born Into Trouble as the Sparks Fly Upwards

I don't feel the need to explain who A Silver Mt. Zion is. This album is probably my favorite work from the Canadians, an epic combination of "A Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band With Choir". Allow it to explain itself. If I was to ever die a poetic death, I would hope that track two would represent it.

DeVotchKa - How It Ends

Yeah, maybe I do have a think for Eastern-European-sounding folk bands, but DeVotchKa's 2004 album How It Ends is anything but typical Eastern-European-sounding. Dripping with romanticism, the four-piece from Colorado blends a balanced barage of Slavic and Mariachi-esque strings and folk instrumentation with frontman Nick Urata's deco vocals. The single sharing the title of the album was featured in the trailer for Everything Is Illuminated and was a revolving musical motif in recent indie film favorite Little Miss Sunshine. I'm a huge fan of what almost seems like Costello/Strummer punk roots found in some inconspicuous corners of this album, inevitably drowned out by Urata's bouzouki, but prevalent nonetheless. Cheers to DeVotchKa. I'll be sure to upload their newest album-- Curse Your Little Heart-- soon.

Russian Circles - Enter

One of my hands-down favorites right now, Russian Circles exists as something more than a pseudo-post rock "instru-metal" (emphasis on metal) band hailing from Chicago, Illinois. The aspects that hook me every time is the tendency the trio has to sound like a four or five piece, due to the diversity and manueverability that guitarist Mike Sullivan whittles into the trunk of Circles' sound. Enter continuously brings back a familiar soft melody throughout the album giving the louder tracks some room to breathe, and making the entire package cohesively solid. Looking for the cat's meow? Quest no further, armies of mice.

For fans of: Pelican, but wishing they'd just step it up already.

AIDS Wolf - The Lovvers LP

Skin Graft Records has this pretty unique ensemble of noise that sounds like a harmonic mix of children in a school bus that's falling off a cliff, mixed with a that huge amp we see in Back to the Future, Part One. The quartet is AIDS Wolf. It's the OST of your nightmares.

Animosity - Animal

I really enjoy this band's music, most of which is purely instrumental and any songs containing vocals are often very soft. This EP was released vinyl only and there were only 500 copies pressed. You can catch them on tour with (unfortunately) HeavyHeavyLowLow throughout the whole month of November.
